I received my first Pickins yesterday lovely presented Journal, thanks to all involved. I am a little surprised the website is very quiet not much input on the forum, a small membership i suppose ? It is not a critism but an observation so i thought i would make my first contribution with some photos of my recently acquired Cotton Cavalier 1973 ? I have had it a couple of months now and not had anything to do with as i hope you will agree it looks pretty well up together. Any info on the bike would be gratefully received, as no history came with the bike.

Thanks for the positive remarks. I wonder whether many more people read than “post “ on this site. If you don’t receive any help with your Cavalier by the end of October, you could send Anthony a paragraph or two and perhaps a photo for the December “Pickins “ . Good Luck!

Hi portboy, you're right - sadly it is a bit quiet but thank you very much for your contribution! As well as encouraging everyone to use the forum we're also trying to build the website to be a more useful reference source but getting people to share their knowledge is an uphill task. Hopefully it's a case of twisting the right arms and 'slowly but surely' .... Very pretty bike by the way - depending on where you are, have you considered showing it off at one of the upcoming events? I'm not sure what bikes they're after but, if you're interested, it might be worth contacting the co-ordinators. Take a look at ' Whats on' on the website. I hope you enjoy your Cotton and membership of the COEC!

Nice bike Portboy. A lot of work must have gone in to it. Any chance of you showing it at the Bristol Classic Bike Show at Shepton Mallet in February? It would look good on the stand

Hi Portboy, real nice looking cavalier, I would say from looking at the pics your bike would be late 1973 but I can tell you the year from your frame number. The engine is a close ratio experts so has the improved gearbox. I cant tell from you photos if you have a 170 or 220 engine but i guess being a late model i would be a 220 but you can only tell if there is a spacing plate between the barrel and crankcases. Really nice bike would look good next to my chrome frame cavalier at Bristol Classic Bike Show at Shepton Mallet. if you want an help or more info just ask im happy to help. Matt the Minarelli man

hi Portboy, Your frame number will be TM7633 or possibaly XTM7633 if it has the X in front of the TM you have an experts model. But from you frame number your bike is the number 63 of 1973. Your engine have the alloy spacer at the base that means you have the bigger 220 engine. Thanks i cant seam to stop buying them but think i might have to now as i think 10 cavalier's is enough.

Wow ten of the little beauties, i can understand the addiction. Thanks for the update info, i am a complete novice as far as the marque goes. How many gears should it have as i haven't ridden it yet as i have been busy resurrecting a Greeves Scottish. I swapped a BSA B50mx for the Greeves and the Cotton so no money exchanged hands any rough idea of value of the Cavalier ? regards Tony
