My 250 Python was wet sumping so I decided to fit a tap on the feed from the tank. Lots of ideas on the web for not forgetting to turn it on before starting the engine and the solution I went with was a switch on the tap. Products are available but look a bit out of place on 1930s cotton so decided to make one using a slightly drilled out petrol tap I had spare. Trying to get a microswitch and cam to work seemed a bit hard but I had a small mercury tilt switch (modern non mercury ones are available). Being fully sealed means no corrosion risk and the leads are soldered and shrink wrapped. Pretty much invisible when on the bike. One lead goes to earth. I used a bit of copper sheet to hold the switch as easily bent to adjust but has no force on it in use. The split pin provides location. Some use the switch to short out the points but I didn't want to risk a bumpy ride or electrical issues causing misfires so went with a 6V sounder from ebay. I have coil ignition with the light switch as the ignition switch so wired up the buzzer and tilt stitch so that when I turn the ignition on the buzzer sounds unless the oil is on. If I forget to turn it off then it might wet sump and I have to drain out some oil but engine won't seize. Hope this is useful for someone.
